Glitter Buzz NOLA is a blog dedicated to creating and highlighting New Orleans Mardi Gras folk art. Anybody who knows and loves Carnival realizes that there is much more than just plastic beads and beer to Mardi Gras. We love and embrace the handmade element. Whether it’s a Zulu coconut, a Muses shoe, or a Nyx purse, these one-of-a-kind creations celebrate the city’s unique history and culture.
Every handmade Mardi Gras throw that I craft and share has a story. I provide techniques and tips on how to achieve similar results. If you’re new to glittering or a seasoned professional, browse my blog and gather inspiration and instruction for your next work of art. Or if you are just looking to add an original piece of New Orleans folk art to your home or office, head over to my Etsy store and find something special today.
In November 2014, I was invited by a new friend to help decorate her Muses shoes for Mardi Gras 2015. Loving everything about the first, all-women New Orleans krewe to parade at night, I immediately said, “Yes!” How was she to know that my favorite color is anything metallic or sparkly? And that my favorite hour in grade school was arts and crafts? I give her credit for my introduction to this crazy, creative world of glitter and glue.
